Who is my

T.I.R.E.D. Patient?

The fact of the matter is anybody might be. If your practice sees, treats, or specializes in women's care, chances are you work with someone suffering from PTSD. You may have even seen one today.

Trauma & Infertility

Trauma doesn't only impact mental health. Studies have suggested that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Trauma, PTSD, Stress, and Anxiety have been proven to affect the body in a number of measurable ways. Women are not only disproportionately vulnerable to certain types of trauma,  but  the body/mind response to trauma may manifest as problems with reproductive health and fertility. Just one more reason your patients may be uniquely affected.

Triggers During Treatment

Because of the way in which the brain processes trauma, many aspects of infertility treatment might trigger body memories which are upsetting to the patient. It is important to understand that whether or not the patient chooses to disclose a history of trauma to you, you and your office staff should be aware of the signs and best practice regarding communicating safety.
