Key Principle 6

CULTURAL, HISTORICAL & GENDER ISSUES

  • The physical environment reflects/honors the diverse groups in the target community

  • Services/reading materials are available in the languages that patients prefer

  • Staff training is provided re: culturally appropriate practices

  • Program policies and practices address issues of cultural and historical oppression

  • Policies and practices address specific gender-related needs in  the population served

The practice actively moves past stereotypes and biases (based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age religion, gender-identity). Policies, protocols, and processes are responsive to the racial, ethnic, and cultural needs of individuals served and recognizes and addresses historical trauma.
