Key Principle 4

COLLABORATION & MUTUALITY

Importance is placed on partnering and the leveling of power differences between medical team and patients demonstrating that healing happens in relationships and in the meaningful sharing of power and decision making. The Practice recognizes that everyone has a role to play in a trauma-informed approach. As one expert stated "one does not have to be a therapist to be therapeutic."

  • Patients participate in development and implementation of individual goals

  • Continuous quality improvement activities are part of the practice’s culture and all participate

  • The practice organization engages in outreach, engagement, and recruitment activities that invite/encourage patient participation

  • Patients collaborate with their medical team on safety goals
